Cancer Council Australia

Every year, ACD partners with the Cancer Council for National Skin Cancer Action Week held during November.

The aim of National Skin Cancer Action Week is to remind Australians of the importance of sun protection and early skin cancer detection.

During National Skin Cancer Action Week and throughout summer, whenever the UV index is three or above, use the five forms of sun protection and #OwnYourTone by:

  • slip on sun-protective clothing
  • slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen
  • slap on a broad-brimmed hat
  • seek shade
  • slide on sunglasses.

A combination of these measures, along with getting to know your skin and regularly checking for any changes, are the keys to reducing your skin cancer risk.

Choosing Wisely

The Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) is pleased to partner with Choosing Wisely Australia®, an initiative of NPS MedicineWise.

This initiative brings the community together to improve the quality of healthcare by considering tests, treatments, and procedures where evidence shows they provide no benefit or, in some cases, lead to harm.

The College has developed 5 recommendations for clinicians and consumers on urticaria, distorted toenails and appropriate use of antibiotics in leg cellulitis, epidermal cysts and acne.
