For: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students to attend the College’s Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM)

Who’s Eligible: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students and junior doctors (PGY1 and PGY2)

Amount: 1 awards up to $1,000

About the Grant: The Australasian College of Dermatologists has established an award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students /junior doctors to attend the College’s Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM).  The next meeting will be held in Sydney, 6-9 May 2017.

The aims of the Award are to provide the following opportunities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students /junior doctors with an interest in dermatology:

  • access to the educational program at the College’s ASM
  • professional networking with College Fellows, registrars and other healthcare workers associated with the field of dermatology
  • introduction to the educational and collegial activities of the Australasian College of Dermatologists

Criteria for Eligibility: Applicants must be a medical student or junior doctor (PGY1 and PGY2) who identify as being Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and are members of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA).

The Award: Registration to the ASM and up to$1000 towards the cost of travel and accommodation.

Award Conditions: On conclusion of the ASM, award recipients are required to write a letter to the College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee with a post-conference report of approximately 500 words, which may be published by the College either in print or on its website.

How to Apply: Complete the application form and submit via the application webform below. Applications must include:

  • a Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • one letter of reference (from a supervisor and one phone number of another referee)
  • a letter to the College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee of no more than 500 words, outlining:
    • your interest in dermatology
    • how you believe attendance at the ACD ASM will be of professional benefit to you
    • your interest, involvement and aspirations in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health

The College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee will determine the recipient of the award. Applicant will be advised of the outcome by the end of March 2017.
